Turn off Microsoft mapping layer and use control without internet conection

Is it possible to introduce a property to allow the turning off of the microsoft mapping layer as can be done in he microsoft mapping sdk demo? This would be useful as we use a large amount of own own tileing and don't need the microsoft mapping all the time. Also on this point is it possible for the control to ignore the absence of an internet connection and display just the local mapping?

p.s. a way of contolling the opacity of tile layers after they have been created would be good!!!

Currently (in v2.00.02) there is no way to turn off the Virtual Earth Base Map Tiles from being displayed. The next update release (v2.00.03 due out within the next couple weeks) will include a Map.LoadBaseTiles property that will allow you to turn off the Virtual Earth Base Map Tiles from being displayed.

However, there really is no way to use MS Virtual Earth (with Web.Maps.VE or otherwise) without an internet connection since you need an internet connection to be able to download the MS Virtual Earth JavaScript API itself.
