Web.Maps.VE 3.0 Feature Roadmap

This is the feature road map for the Web.Maps.VE v3.0 product, and shows what features/enhancements are planned for future update releases of the product. Any planned release dates will also be shown here. If there is a feature that the control does not yet support and you don't see it listed here; please post your suggestion in the forums or by contacting us.

v3.01.00 - Released 7/24/2010

This is a minor update release that only adds a couple of largely requested features.

New Features:

Updated to use the Bing Maps v6.3 Ajax Control
Bing Maps Key support added via the new Map.BingKey property.
Added Map.CustomMapScript property to allow developers to override the Bing Maps Ajax Control JavaScript File, and allows the use of a custom script file within the page instead. For advanced users.
Added Client-Side JavaScript API support to the control for the new "Search" and "Geocode" methods that were added to the Bing Maps v6.3 update.

New Features:

Microsoft Content Delivery Network (CDN) Support - The Microsoft CDN offers improved performance for loading the JavaScript API and Map Imagery by up to 82%. The CDN is compised of multiple worldwide datacenters that allow Microsoft to host Virtual Earth content closer to end users. More Info: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd807493.aspx
A minified version of the javascript files (via jsmin) are used when running in Debug Mode ("debug=false" in the web.config). This helps reduce the size of the script files considerably, which will cause the page to load faster.
Loop iterators internally within the javascript code has been optimized to better improve the overall performance of the Web.Maps.VE control.
Add a "Map.GetShapeByTag" and "ShapeLayer.GetShapeByTag" methods that allow you to easily retrieve the first Shape within All ShapeLayers or an individual ShapeLayer that has its Tag property set to a specific value.
Add "AddCustomLayer" and "RemoveCustomLayer" support. These methods are added to the Web.Maps.VE JavaScript Map object.

Another new, interesting feature of Web.Maps.VE v3.0 is that we modified the licensing model from previous releases. It's still licensed on a "Per Developer" basis, but is FREE for "Non-Commercial" use.

Also, v3.0 is a Free Upgrade to All customers who have purchased v2.0 previous to August 26th, 2009; the day v3.0 was released. All these customers have already been granted a v3.0 license so it will already be available for download within the "My Licenses" section.
